At work he often liked to start chatting. For the first year everything was calm, and I had friendly relations with him and his brother. We even had coffee and a cake with his brother on his name day (or his brother’s name day, I don’t remember precisely). I visited them three times during the first year, when he asked me to lend him some money, when he needed to repair his car. I was also at his birthday, but only for 15 minutes, because he saw me, and asked me from the balcony to come in, just for a minute.
Martha remembers all the dates best.
She remembers about all the dates and thinks about everyone.
On July 28, there was an anniversary of Martha’s imprisonment.
The second already.
And the next day – Jylu 29 -… Martha’s name day.
In 2016, the Jury was in a hurry.
It started the proceedings on July 25, and for few days it couldn’t reach a verdict.
It couldn’t make a decision on July 29, 2016, because one of the Jurors had already planned flight for summer holiday. So decision was made in the last possible day – July 28, 2016.
(On the other hand, July 29 was the last day before summer break in the Court)
It was close and the decision about Martha’s imprisonment would be made on her name day.
(From the perspective of time, we can say that on July 28, 2016, the decision about imprisoning Martha was ANNOUNCED).
Nevertheless a date easy to remember came to Martha:
imprisonment a day before her name day.
The imprisonment is sometimes called “a birthday”.
So one day is “birthday” and the next day is name day.
Name day – Sunday, July 29, 2018, was calm for Martha.
She didn’t prepare anything for herself on the day.
The friend who visited Martha that day, gave her name day wishes.
In Ireland usually name day isn’t celebrated.
Polish people living in Ireland usually don’t have a Polish calendar with name days.
Today, June 7, Martha celebrated her Birthday.
Second Birthday in Dochas Centre prison in Dublin, Ireland.
Martha had earlier prepared two things for herself: coffee and popcorn.
For her it’s a “prison luxury” she allows herself only on Sunday or on special occasions.
And sometimes something sweet, like a candybar.
She prepared the coffee and the popcorn herself after she came from school, and she spent the evening alone.
Is this the last Birthday in prison in Ireland?
Where will she be in a year?
MArtha received many postcards with birthday wishes from her close ones, but also from strangers.
Probably not all of them were given to her yet.
Some of the close ones, especially called Martha’s sister today and asked her to pass their birthday wishes to Martha.
Martha wanted to thank very much everyone through us.
She thanks very, very much everyone for your memory of her, and for all the wishes.
Martha doesn’t feel the strength enough to thank by herself.
She doesn’t feel the strength, because she’s so touched by the memory of other people, that the emotions wouldn’t let her finish what she would want to say.
Although she is very strong overcoming the obstacles that she encounters.
We wish Martha the strength to overcome those obstacles…
And just one more little, wish, not spoken loudly to the end:
“So that will be the last… in…
So that will be the las… without”
“So that it would come true…”
Martha asked for an additional phone call.
(Again the talk was “very” eavesdropped).
Martha was very keen to call her sister.
The sister does not celebrate birthday, but Martha always remembers about that day.
Every time on that day she calls her sister.
Even the prison didn’t change that custom.
She was very keen on her sister getting a letter from her that day – a scrapbook with hearts and smiles.
(And the letter arrived today)
On that day, Martha wished her sister smile.
So that she, despite of what’s going on – she always enjoy life.
She wished her, that their dream come true.
That thet sit together in the garden, drinking orange juice and laugh to the sun.
Seems like so little…
… but for now…
…in the realm of dreams…
…she remembers about her close ones…
…she remembers about everyone…
